Romanian Consulate General in Manchester, UK presents Bucharest in Shades of Monochrome at National Day event
The Romanian Consulate General in Manchester celebrated the National Day 2025 at the Manchester Art Gallery, a historical monument building, in the presence of members of the Romanian community, representatives of the consular corps accredited in Manchester and representatives of local authorities, with the participation of the Ambassador of Romania to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, H.E. Laura Popescu and His Eminence Athanasius, Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The event was an opportunity to remember all the steps and efforts made, over time, by visionary people for the realization of the ideal of Union and for shaping and developing the Romanian state until now. In a unique way, the façade of the Manchester Art Gallery was illuminated in the colors of the Romanian flag.
At the same time, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr. Barbara Murray, recited 2 poems at the event, both dedicated to heroes who gave their lives to the performance of patriotic deeds, a poem written by the Romanian author Cristina Steliana Mihailovici, from Liverpool, from the recently released book "The angels with crystal wings", and her own composition, "River Song".
The program of the event took on multiple valences, closely related to the strategy and vision of CG Manchester, with a focus on the area of economic and tourism promotion of Romania in the local society. Thus, 2 videos were presented to promote Romania, one dedicated to the economic sector: Romania – The Strategic Choice - https://lnkd.in/ey_sVS8z & one dedicated to the tourism sector - Romania - Explore the Carpathian Garden - https://lnkd.in/efmitG-Z.
Soprano Simona Furdui delighted the audience with a classical music recital from the repertoire of Romanian composers George Grigoriu and Tiberiu Brediceanu.
The event ended with a reception and a photographic exhibition of the British-Italian artist Mark Wilman: ‘Bucharest in Shades of Monochrome’.
